Advanced Learning Skills and Paradigms
This workshop will offer and develop skills, drills and techniques needed to facilitate a much needed advanced class for Tucson Tango dancers to help improve social dancing and understanding of tango nuances. The goal of an advanced class is for the participants to understand and integrate the concepts in an improvisational manner.
Jo and Rusty’s workshops focus on connection, embrace, partnering, body awareness and musicality. They emphasize technique and elements with the goal of assisting dancers to develop their individual style and ability to improvise.
We call this workshop “Dancing in the dark” as there is plenty of groovy stuff happening on the closed side of the embrace where we have no vision, only a sense of feel and fortified confidence that can only come from practice.
Using fundamentally basic steps we build and improve our foundation as we string together some simple events that in another context might seem complex but turn out to be very integrative. We keep poignantly connected to the foundation of tango so that these movement/sequences will stay with you forever. There are several fun ways to end this class depending on the level of comprehension of the participants.
Schedule
1:00 – 2:30 PM – Frame, posture, connection and positions. Connection with yourself, with the floor and with your partner – locating and recognizing the ladies axis and how to manoeuvere around it without disrupting her. Ladies will learn to relax and allow the lead to move around either side of her axis with elegance and style.
2:30 – 3:00 PM – Refreshments, Rest & Video or Practice – We will watch champion social dancers move in slow motion to satisfy your visual needs.
3:00 – 4:30 PM – The Dark Side and what you can do with it. Turns, calecitas, change of directions…many things can happen. We will begin simply and expand based on progress of the class.
4:30 – 5:00pm – Practice
