Argentine Tango Boot Camp – An immersion process in learning the structure of Tango Milonguero

A Milonguero boot camp for Milonguero style Argentine Tango!

  1. The Frame, The Posture and The Walking
    • These elements can’t be cheated so we will build you from the your feet to your head in such a fashion that by the end of this class – reinforced of course by all consecutive classes – your body will remember and know the posture you MUST dance from.
  2. Moving With of Your Partner – Not moving Your Partner
    • By being aware of our partner before you take step, we will set the stage for your dancing to grow faster because you cannot move without your partner – neither of you!
  3. Walking with Music in Your Body
    • Making the walk a part of the music early in the learning process is vital to a good foundation. We will show, demonstrate and teach you some basic musical movements that are easy, fun and an actual part of the music itself.
  4. Simple and Musical is Better!
    • By feeling the rhythms of the music in simple steps you can lay a concrete foundation to how you begin to move with your parter for the rest of your tango learning process.
  5. Some Steps to Rely On
    • Tango is difficult enough without overwhelming you when you are beginning to get the foundation into your muscle memory. Here is where you will learn some challenging but not distracting steps to move you around the floor with your partner.

Milonguero Basic

By rusty, February 27, 2010

The basics for tango milonguero are the foundation for tango movements. If you have this foundation firmly under your shoes, you can begin to expand your repertoire and musicality. Practice practice practice!

Rock Step Pivots 101

As you perfect the 90 degree pivot, the 180 pivot becomes more accesible and after you perfect the 180 the 360 will begin to awaken to your body as always the key is to… PRACTICE until you are bored with the step and then practice some more.

Sacadas 235

By rusty, January 27, 2010

Warning: Sacadas are not very floor craft friendly so master these before you begin to use them at the milonga!

Sacadas are pieces of your foundation. Here you will see pieces of ocho cortado, gyros – molinetes. Stay soft, calm and balance. Nail your pivots or you may get nailed by your partner.

Ladies hear and follow the impulse!

Volcadas 2010

By rusty, January 13, 2010

For best results look at the connection NOT at the feet. You will miss the all important lean of the volcada. You want the shape of a tee-pee, not a lean-to!

Volcada is an advanced movement! It is a lean and a connection, not a step!!! Please don’t use this on the floor of the milonga until you have mastered the lean and movement as it can cause stress, pain or injury!

But please…. HAVE FUN!!!

With Love & Light,
Rusty
You are the music, love is the rhythm and life is the dance!
