Men’s Improvisation Workshop

Men's Technique WorkshopTango can seem very complicated and at times inaccessible. I recently took a music class that opened up my guitar usage dramatically. In that moment I had a flash of how to share with you how I improvise in the dance.

Just like in music there are simple rules that hold a group together i.e. meet at the down beat, the end of a phrase, at a chord or key change etc. The same rules apply in improvising the dance, except of course it is the lady AND the music we must meet and resolve with.

Using Molinete, rocks, and the walk as a grounding and meeting place we will explore improvisations between the steps found in each. We have scripted some synergistic patterns and movements to emphasize places and moments that create harmonic balance, from there you will begin to understand and create some improvisations of your own.

Men will dance both parts with one another, so plan on having a better and cleaner molinete when the class is finished as well as some great ideas on how to be musical inside of any potential partners movements.

Orlando and I have been working on this concept for a while. We will have a very well rehearsed class for you to learn from. More info will follow as the next month unfolds.
