Tango is a fun way to challenge your body mind connection!

Tango is a fun way to challenge your body mind connection!

Thursday night at 7:00pm is a entry-level class for the beginning student to tango or for those that want to improve their existing foundation. Participants in this class will progress over time as we review steps, embrace, connection and musicality each week with different approaches. This class overlaps with the 8:00 PM Intermediate class and beginners are welcome to stay the entire evening if they feel energized to do so. The conceptual flow is here:
  1. 7:00-8:00 - Why the WALK is so important: 9 ways to walk forward, 3 ways to walk back Fundamentals of Moving with your Partner: Embrace, rhythm and making crosses (cruzadas).
  2. 8:00-9:00 Turns (molinete) - Of course we can’t walk in a stright line forever, so we need to learn to make turns. There is one very simple system of turning in tango. If your tango turns are complicated you need this class! Turns are an important element often skipped in tango lessons, the turns and system of teaching turns in the class is revolutionary! While we turn we do: Sacadas – Enrosques – Lapiz – Colgada – Barridas This class will teach you all the above and more!
During all of our classes we provide information on the history of Argentine Tango and the traditional music, along with the codigos and dance floor navigation to prepare you for the "Milonga" (the name of the event where we get together and dance tango). Our objective is to enable you to be confident, successful and a sought after dancer at the milongas here in Tucson and out in the rest of the tango world including Buenos Aires. Classes are $15 for the full evening. AZ Ballet Theatre

The ABCs of Tango

Group Classes are Fun!

Group Classes introduce you to the tango community!

Utilizing The Tango Matrix System of Learning
    Foundation Class:
  1. Tango Walking - Tango is known as The Walking Dance it is imperative that your walk is honed and refined into a strong, sensibly organic bi-pedal movement that is effortless and effective for sending and receiving information. Tango has a slow cadence once you organize your walk correctly you have lots of time to lead and follow one another.
  2. 9 Ways to Walk Forward - 3 Ways to Walk Back - To navigate the floor and remove all the complexities of learning tango, we have broken the walk down into its simplest elements making it easy to learn.
  3. The Corrida - Corrida means "to run". Using the above types of walking you a center beat to meet up with the phrase of the music.
  4. Left Rock Turn - Containing the "Crown Jewel of Tango" the left rock turn is your firs introduction to the contra-lateral-spiral that is so predominant in tango, and it happens to be easy to do.
  5. The Famous "Cruzada" - Cruzada means: "cross". The cruzada is the hallmark of tango. We get you comfortable in your own body first and then in the arms of the other dancers.
  6. Turns We can't walk in a straight line there are other people dancing there :) Turns are simple with our revolutionary method of showing you exactly how they work. There are three simple rules to turning. We help you master these by delivering a game of sorts that immediately changes the way you turn forever.
