Ney Melo & Jennifer Bratt Come To Tucson Sept 17-19th

Ney Melo and Jennifer Bratt

Ney Melo and Jennifer Bratt

Ney Melo and Jennifer Bratt Straight From Miami/Buenos Aires

World-renowned tango dancers and teachers Ney Melo & Jennifer Bratt started in the New York City and Buenos Aires tango scenes, learning from the old milongueros and dancing every night in the milongas. They went on to teach and guide young dancers in the art of Villa Urquiza style Tango in 2003. In 2007, they relocated to the West Coast and opened their studio “TangoVida San Francisco” on 1120 Pacific Street in San Francisco. After three marvelous years there, they moved to South Beach and opened “TangoVida Miami” in 2010.

Ney and Jennifer are dedicated to inspiring students to dance tango with feeling, musicality, cadencia, and connection – the way it is danced in Buenos Aires. The atmosphere in their classes is relaxed, personable and lively, and they place equal emphasis on the lady’s role as the man’s. Technique and the essence of tango, both fundamental to dancing well, are stressed in whatever step is being shown. Their instruction is highly respected and sought out by beginning and advanced dancers, as well as other teachers and choreographers.

In addition to running TangoVida, Ney and Jennifer have been busy touring the world. They regularly teach and perform in Poland, Singapore, Malaysia, Romania, Slovenia, Australia, and New Zealand as well as extensively all over North America. They are also the invited maestros at the 2010 Firenze Tango Festival in Italy and the 2010 Toronto Tango Festival in Canada.

Molinete literally translates as “little windmill” (sometimes called Gyro) is where Argentine Tango meet folk dance. All folk dances have a grapevine. Argentine tango is different in many aspects and its grapevine is no exception. The Molinete is a circular grapevine and though we sometimes do it simultaneously with our partner, we most frequently do different steps in opposition to each others steps.

It is this opposition that gives the Molinete its power. We will help you create a workout for your practice sessions that will keep you from getting dizzy doing the circular grapevine of the Molinete. We will use famous and traditional steps and combinations that end with:

  • Cross System & Parallel – Twin Molinetes
  • Leg Wraps
  • Sacadas
  • Barridas
  • Ganchos

These events will happen but the focus is PURE Molinete!!!

There will be no drop-ins after the series starts. The Series will be $35 per person – nontransferable.

All folk dances have a grapevine. Argentine tango’s grapevine moves in a circle and it is called Molinete (meaning little windmill). From the ladies perspective there may be long durations of a song where she is dancing a Molinete over and over as the leader changes his movements. This is doable once the leader had led the Molinete so many times that he can continue leading the Molinete even as his feet do something different.

The challenge for the follower here is to maintain her elegant lines and composure as she allows her Molinete to morph and twist and turn in to different directions until it may not quite resemble the Molinete she has practiced. As the Molinete is shaped and turned it becomes a mesmerizing Zen-ful zone from which to ply her elegance.

We will explore some famous patterns. Then we will dissect these patterns in order to open you to the many possibilities of dancing the Molinete together and separately.

Often times the Molinete is left out of practice because it can make one dizzy. We have exercises and disciplines that will reduce the dizziness as you learn the ins and outs of the Molinete!
